In the 70's, my family and I enjoyed playing Atari on TV.

Fast forward to 2012. Here are the basics.

I have a WIndows XP laptop computer (7 years old). I do not know much about computers however.

I am feeling nostalgic and am WISHING I could once again play RIVER RAID on my computer. But I don't know where to even begin.

I just read about Stella downloads but don't know if it's safe. Some say they are free, or do you buy it?

Has Atari resurrected its games for computer? Specifically RIVER RAID, that's the only one I liked.

Also, what kind of joystick would I need that would work with the XP that is basic in nature, for a one-person player?

    Sorry for all the questions.

    Thank you in advance.

Most of what you are asking (except for whether there is a PC update) would require the use of emulators. Since they are illegal because games are licensed to run only on their original machines (with some exceptions, I would imagine), we can't really give you much help in this area. But I'm sure that searching will allow you to make a decision about whether it is possible or feasible.
