I have read some of the threads that looked at this problem. I tried a couple of things:
    1. Used Advanced Windows Cleaner - which scan and fixed some stuff
    2. Got Hijack This and got a log file (see below)

I havent done much else. I dont have much PC experience with this kind of stuff and I found some of the threads a bit technical in their wording. If someone has the time to help me out with this problem - very simple step by step instructions would be great. I was going to try some of the rebooting in safe mode advice on other threads but decided against it just in case the fix method varies case by case.

    Thank you in advance.

    Here is the logfile

You will have to wait for a gold shield member to look at your H/T log but I have noticed a few things on there, both your Abode Acrobat 7.0 and your Java 1.5 are out of date, they do have security issues and, at least for the Java, I would suggest that you remove all Java 1.5 and updates from your add/remove console then go here http://java.sun.com/javase/downloads/index.jsp
and download and install Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 6, you can do this whilst waiting for a reply about your H/T log

    Hi JSntgRvr

Thank you for your reply. I followed your simply laid out instructions and I seemed to be doing ok. I got up to the point of using the AVG Anti-spyware however once I pressed the Apply All Actions the computer didnt do anything for ages and then the task manager said the program wasnt responding. So I did it all again and completed the BFU stage (although I didnt get to save a report!). Anyway since I started up the computer again in normal mode I havent been able to connect to the internet - Problem loading page messages appear. So I am not sure what has happened or what I should do. I am using my old laptop to send this message.

I would be most grateful if you could help me sort this latest problem out so I can get back on the net normally.

    Regards IOMKGS

PS The b.exe error didnt appear when I restarted the PC again.

    Hi, iomkgs :)

Lets check some settings on your system:
    1. Enter your Control Panel and double-click on Network Connections
    2. Then right click on your Default Connection
      • Usually Local Area Connection for Cable and DSL, or AOL Connection.
    3. Left click on Properties
    4. Double-Click on the Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) item
    5. Select the radio dial that says Obtain DNS Servers Automatically
    6. Press OK twice to get out of the properties screen
    7. Restart the computer
Go to Start->Run->Type CMD and click Ok. The MSDOS Window will be displayed. At the command prompt, type the following and press Enter after each line:

ipconfig /flushdns (The space between g and / is needed)
    Exit

    Restart the computer.

If that does not resolve the issue, follow these steps:

    Reset the Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)

Go to Start->Run, type CMD and click Ok. The MSDOS window will be displayed. At the prompt type the following and press Enter after each line:

    netsh int ip reset C:\Resetlog.txt
    netsh winsock reset catalog
    Exit

    Restart the computer.

Warning Programs that access or monitor the Internet such as antivirus, firewall or proxy clients may be negatively affected when you run the netsh winsock reset command. If you have a program that no longer functions correctly after you use this resolution, reinstall the program to restore functionality.

    Keep me posted.

Thanks for getting back to me. Still having some problems.

When I got home from work I checked your reply on this computer (old one) I checked the settings as you instructed and restarted the PC then I checked the connection and it connected to the internet with no problem so I started downloading using bittorrent and it starting downloading no problem - I was happy. Then I tried to download a second file and it said Problem Loading Page but the first one continued to download.

Do you think the AVG Anti-Spyware is blocking something or has caused a different problem. Should I reinstall bittorrent and/or Firefox? I used to use Zonealarm but that doesnt seem to come on now the AVG seems to be there instead.

I'm not sure what to do next. I await your advice. Should I do the bottom instruction on your last email?

Thanks in advance for your time

    Regards IOMKGS

    Hi, iomkgs :)

Do noty use bittorrent for the time being. Follow the instructions on Post #4 to check your computer for malware.

If you connected to the internet, the second part of my previous reply is unnecessary.

    Submit the logs requested.

Ok I will repeat all of post #4 and then I will get the reports to you. If I cannot connect to the net then I wont be able to connect to the Panda Active Scan site. If thats the case should I download it on my other PC and transfer it on disk?
I will give it a go anyway tonight after work.

    Thanks again
    Regards IOMKGS

    Hi, iomkgs :)

It wont work like that. You must connect to the internet to perform the scan.

Here is the Hijack this file. I got the report from the AVG scan but it is 1,417kb which will be a huge posting. Should I send it as an attachment? Most of it relates to one folder where I download to but most of it I dont recognise as things I have downloaded. What do you want me to do?

I went to Pandas Active Scan site but when I clicked the Scan your PC thing it said that my browser isnt supported. I use Firefox because mt Internet Explorer brings up a runtime error - Panda said I needed IE. Again - what should I do?

    Hi, iomkgs :)

    Yes. Please attach the report.

Download ComboFix from Here or Here. to your Desktop.

    Reboot to Safe mode:

Restart your computer and begin tapping the F8 key on your keyboard just before Windows starts to load. If done right a Windows Advanced Options menu will appear. Select the Safe Mode option and press Enter.

Perform the following actions in Safe Mode.
    • Double click combofix.exe and follow the prompts.
    • When finished, it shall produce a log for you. Post that log in your next reply
Note: Do not mouseclick combofix's window while its running. That may cause it to stall

I tried to copy the scan file to the post but it said it was too big. Then I tried to upload it as an attachment and it said it was too big. How do I send it to you?
