Is there any easy way to tell what networking level my laptop is capable of? Its an older IBM, T30. Wireless works
fine but I'm thinking of upgrading the router and want to make sure the laptop will connect using the faster
    N network speed.

Well, depending on whether the Network Card is built onto the motherboard, or it's a separate component, you would need to locate the appropriate manual and see what it says.

One easy way to tell, though, is that: If your computer was manufactured prior to 2009, then it couldn't possibly work with N, as it wasn't available yet.

Also, searching for the brand and model of the wireless adapter will usually quickly find the specs. And sometimes the model itself identifies the b, g or n.

According to the online maintenance manual for the IBM Thinkpad T30 laptop, it has this description:

    Mini PCI adapter:

Mini PCI Type-IIIa IBM High Rate Wireless LAN Mini-PCI Card Adapter with Modem II

Mini PCI Type-IIIa Cisco Aironet Wireless 802.11b
