Hi - I have an HP Pavilion 7975, about 3 years old. Believe it has an Asus motherboard and Phoenix BIOS. It has worked without any problem for 3 years. Today I installed an upgraded video card to go with my new DVI LCD monitor. When I turned the machine back on, it is beeping in a pattern of 4 or 5 seconds of beep then 2 or 3 seconds of silence, indefinitely. No attempt to begin the boot process into Windows, just beeping.

I assumed I either didn't seat the card properly, or the card is incompatible with the MB. So I made sure I'd seated the card properly, same problem. Took the new card out and put the old card back in. Same problem - beeping just like it did with the new card. So now even with the original setup it does not work. And its worked fine, without problem, for 3 years.

Any suggestion what might be going on?

Thank you!

Hi - thank you for this. I'd already seen the list of Phoenix codes. The one I am getting isn't on the list, unfortunately.

Did you observe static precautions when removing and installing the cards?
Did you knock anything by accident on the motherboard?
Installing graphic cards are fairly straight forward nomally without any problems, the fact that your old card causes the same issue would possibly point to the motherboard but how or why I am not quite sure, others on the forum may be able to help

Hi - Installing the new video card was a tight fit in the available space. It turned out that the back end of the video card had partially unseated one of the memory modules while I was inserting it into its socket. After reseating the memory, everything is working fine. Thank you for your help. I appreciate your efforts.
