    Hello,

Man oh man. Ok, I have had the about:blank problem for a while now. I see that it is a popular hijack problem. Anyway, I ran adaware (with updated ref files) and all of these new files popped up. I did not look extremely carefully (I have never experienced adaware bringing something up that did not need to be deleted), checked all, and clicked fix (kiks self). Ok, restarted my computer (everything is fine and dandy). I try to listen to one of my cd's and windows media player reports back that there is an error.

Naturally, I check my logfile and realized that I deleted a windows media player file (oops). I go back into adaware, undo the fix so that i can repeat the process without deleting that file. Computer starts up fine, I run adaware and step out for a second. I come back and my computer has restarted (that is wierd). So I log on (and take an abnormally long amount of time). I finally get to my desktop and everything is so slow. I try to run adaware again but my computer cannot find it. Ok.... I try to run media player again, error. A few moments later it pops up that my virtual memory is too low.

Problems: Extremely long startup for windows, unable to connect to the internet now, a scandisk I have keeps reporting "error:qfecheck.log," and my virtually memory is used up after only using hijackthis (sigh).

below is the most current logfile from hijackthis:

Download and unzip this version of HijackThis to a permanent folder, not a "temporary" one. If you need to copy it over, do that.

    http://www.net-integration.net/tools/hijackthis.html

    Then follow these instructions:

[IMG] Have these instructions printed or in a convenient Notepad (or Wordpad) file so you can view them in Safe Mode. Have "show hidden (or all) files" checked in Folder Options > View in case you have to search for any hidden files to delete. Also ensure you do NOT have "hide file extensions..." enabled in Folder Options > View

    1 >> Restart in Safe Mode: http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/tsgeninfo.nsf/docid/2001052409420406

Run HijackThis and check and "fix" the following entries:

    O3 - Toolbar: Yahoo! Companion - {EF99BD32-C1FB-11D2-892F-0090271D4F88} - C:\Program Files\Yahoo!\Companion\Installs\cpn\ycomp5_3_19_0.dll (file missing)
    O3 - Toolbar: ICQ Toolbar - {855F3B16-6D32-4fe6-8A56-BBB695989046} - C:\Program Files\ICQToolbar\toolbaru.dll (file missing)
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [SysUpd] C:\WINDOWS\sysupd.exe
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [romahere] C:\WINDOWS\System32\matrixhere.exe
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [pnpsvc_lock] C:\WINDOWS\System32\1067880.exe
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Network Security Guard] C:\WINDOWS\System32\sglt5fbusr.exe

    O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [romahere] C:\WINDOWS\System32\matrixhere.exe
    O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [uninstal] regsvr32 /u /s image.dll

    O4 - Global Startup: winlogin.exe

^^ although I am including this in the list of items to be "fixed", I believe you will have to manually navigate to:

    C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu\Programs\Startup

and delete "winlogin.exe" from the "Startup" folder. Do not confuse with winlogon.exe which you will find elsewhere.

2 >> Go To Start > Run and enter cmd and a command shell will open. Carefully type and enter each line below:

    del C:\WINDOWS\sysupd.exe
    del C:\WINDOWS\System32\matrixhere.exe
    del C:\WINDOWS\System32\1067880.exe
    del C:\WINDOWS\System32\sglt5fbusr.exe

3 >> Reboot and post a new HijackThis Scanlog using the latest version, 1.98.2

    OK:

I messed up on the sequence (sorry just got excited that someone could help me). I forgot to change my folder options and start in safemode. I ran Hijackthis and deleted the items you told me to delete. I realized that I forgot step one and rebooted in safemode. I typed in the cmd prompt but the computer could not find the files. I went to folder options and enabled everything you suggested. Restarted comp and did the command prompt again.

    Deleted:
    del C:\WINDOWS\System32\matrixhere.exe
    del C:\WINDOWS\System32\sglt5fbusr.exe

It could not find the other two.

I restarted my comp and ran Hijackthis. My log:

I tried to delete the global startup winlog, but nothing was there bigfix and I believe msoffice.
I can connect to the internet, but I still cannot use it. Virtual Memory is not drained so fast and my computer is running a little faster. Now that I am familiar, I promise I will follow the directions step by step. As soon as I can connect from my computer, I will be more than happy to make a donation and be a part of this community. You guys rock :waiting anxiously:

We'll try it again, by the numbers ....

Note: when you restart in Safe Mode be sure to select the same User Account this profile is in. It must have administrative priveleges to be present in the selection options.

Download and unzip to a convenient location the CoolWebShredder, CWShredder.exe available here: http://www.computercops.biz/downloads-cat-14.html

    Then:

    1 >> Restart in Safe Mode: http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/tsgeninfo.nsf/docid/2001052409420406

2 >> In Safe Mode run the CoolWebShredder and have it "fix" detected problems. Then run HijackThis and check and "fix" the following entries:

    R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,HomeOldSP = about:blank
    O2 - BHO: (no name) - {467FAEB2-5F5B-4c81-BAE0-2A4752CA7F4E} - C:\WINDOWS\System32\oi8697wu30.dll

    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Network Security Guard] C:\WINDOWS\System32\sglt5fbusr.exe

    O18 - Filter: text/html - (no CLSID) - (no file)
    O18 - Filter: text/plain - (no CLSID) - (no file)

3 >> Go to Start > Run and enter cmd and a command shell will open. Carefully type and enter each bold line. Let me know if you get an error with any:

    del C:\WINDOWS\System32\sglt5fbusr.exe
    del C:\WINDOWS\System32\oi8697wu30.dll

^ I expect you will get a "missing" on this since HijackThis should delete it.

    del "%mypath%\start menu\programs\startup\winlogin.exe"

be sure to include the quotes on this.

Additional cleanup instructions: Go to the Control Panel > Internet Options applet. Clear the Temporary Internet Cache, History and Offline Content. Go to the Programs tab and select "reset web settings", including your home page if it has been altered. You can reset that later to what you desire.

Go to Start > Run, enter %temp% and then click Edit > Select All. Right click on the selected files and folders and delete them

4 >> Reboot and post a new Scanlog

    Happy!

ok ok I did everything you said. CWS caught alot of stuff. I fixed the check and none of the command promps could be found. However, I believe i saw the winlogin.exe in the recycle bend after I ran CWS.

I am also now connected with the computer that has the problems!!!! Search function still does not run on my comp. Also, the about:blank is still with me when I rs.
    here is the last log:

Nope, we're going from the frying pan to the fire here. I suspect a hidden service may be causing this.

Download and unzip the getservices file. Run getservices.bat and upload the text file it produces as an attachment. Also copy/paste another HijackThis scanlog to go with it because this thing is morphing from one post to another.

Yes you should have performed all those instructions in Safe Mode.

    Also, please do this:

    download and run : (http://downloads.subratam.org/FINDnFIX.exe)

It will extract a set of files to c:\FindnFix

Run the !log!.bat in the FindnFix folder and post the log.txt file it creates to a reply

Trojan service identified, but don't forget this, I want to see it as well:

    download and run : (http://downloads.subratam.org/FINDnFIX.exe)
It will extract a set of files to c:\FindnFix
Run the !log!.bat in the FindnFix folder and post the log.txt file it creates to a reply
