Solved: Black screen on start up

My old computer that I used until last year has been stowed away since then, but yesterday I hauled it out and tried to start it up.

It turns on and I just get a black screen, and 2 short beeps intermittently.

based on the fact that my motherboard uses a AMI BIOS (Intel D845HV), apparently this beep code indicates a memory parity failure.

I tried testing the computer with each individual ram stick which didn't change anything.

I don't know what to do now but I'm pretty sure it's a hardware issue.

Any ideas or anyone experienced this before?

Sometimes the CMOS configuration memory gets corrupted if a PC is not used for a long time. Or the CMOS battery may be dead if the PC is very old (4-5 years).

You can try resetting the configuration memory using the CMOS reset jumper. The jumper is usually near the battery on the motherboard (the battery is about the size of a US 5 cent coin). There are usually three pins with a jumper between two of them. Moving the jumper to the other side resets the CMOS. You want to do this with the computer turned off, then return the jumper to the original position.

If that isn't it, and the PC is 4-5 years old or older, consider replacing the battery.
