What the error means is it can't find an operating system and it's trying to boot from a network.try to boot from the windows cd and do a repair. go into bios and set cd as your first boot option.if its win xp try recovery console

if it was recognizing the drive at all, it would produce some sort of window error or boot failure on the drive

The fact that it has bypassed checking the harddrive seems to indicate that either
a) its trying to do boot off of network first and fails before it goes to the harddrive boot or...
b) the hard drive is pooched and not detected by the BIOS

I'm not sure if you could do a recovery off the restore disk.If you don't have any important data to save a complete restore should work.I won't advise on using a bootleg copy of windows xp pro.
