I just bought a sony vaio second hand with a licensed copy of win2000 installed.
Between me and my missus we already seem to have some unwanted visitors.

I think we have 4 problems.

    1) Derbiz
    2) Constant pop ups for viagra and the like
    3) Every now and again we get a warning that the system will shut down and then a timer starts counting down from 3 mins
    4) generally slow performance allround and also unstable performance when using firefox - though I'm not sure if that is just due to the spec of the laptop? not sure what the spec is?

can anyone advise on any of these and how to fix?

Here's my log, if this helps.

    Thanks in advance...

    SpywareBlaster 3.3 http://majorgeeks.com/download2859.html
    AdAware SE 1.05 http://www.majorgeeks.com/download506.html
    SpyBot S&D 1.3 http://www.safer-networking.org/en/download/

DL them (they are free), install them, check each for their
    definition updates
and then run AdAware and Spybot, fixing anything
    they say.

In SpywareBlaster - Always enable all protection after updates
In SpyBot - After an update run immunize

Print this and boot to safe mode (Start tapping F8 at the first black screen after power up)
    Fix these with HJT

    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [etbrun] C:\winnt\system32\elitekbu32.exe
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [ASDPLUGIN] C:\WINNT\system32\uk_nm.exe -N

    View Hidden Files
Open Windows Explorer. Go to Tools, Folder Options and click on the View tab.
Make sure that "Show hidden files and folders" is checked.
Also uncheck "Hide protected operating system files".
    Uncheck hide extensions
Now click "Apply to all folders", Click "Apply" then "OK"

    Delete these files

    C:\winnt\system32\elitekbu32.exe
    C:\WINNT\system32\uk_nm.exe

    START – RUN – type in %temp% OK - Edit – Select all – File – Delete
Delete everything in the C:\Windows\Temp folder or C:\WINNT\temp
    Empty the recycle bin
Boot and post a new log

    fingers crossed I think so.

    Thank you very much.

Do people normally make a donation, or give you points or anything. I'm not sure how the process works. Let me know and I will gladly oblige.

ps - I've been to SC once for a few days (a place called Summerville). It is a very nice place!

Hi grimmo, just wanted to let you know if you make a donation of $20.00 your ads from this site will go away! :) Make sure to add your TSG userid in the transaction, also it's cumulative in case you make multiple donations during a year.

Oh and I think MFDnSC gets 10 points for this thread. :D
