Both hinges snapped off today when carefully closing the main cover after replacing a cartridge. I can’t find replacement parts or any diagram to try a workaround. Wiring diagram may help too, perhaps I could disconnect the switch that is now sending a message cover not closed. If you press down on the left hand side of the cover the error clears. Have searched pretty hard, saw some homegrown ideas, nothing with pics, parts #'s or diagrams. No more HP's!!! (already have one dead one.)

    Thanks

Update - the model of the HP J6480 is CB053A. No luck anywhere finding parts or a repair procedure. A parts diagram would be great.

If you remove the top half of both hinges the cover will settle into its natural position and the open cover alert will go away. You are good to go just need to hold the cover carefully when changing the cartridges.

There are 10 torx screws, this alteration should take less than 10 minutes. Start with removing the little tab on the outside back of the printer at both hinges. This will expose two more screws on each hinge so remove them (only four to go.) Now open the cover and remove two screws from each hinge while holding the cover carefully so you don't yank on the ribbon cable. Try not to drop these screws inside the machine.

    Regards,
