Hi

I'm experiencing problems with browsing. When I fire up the pc, connect to the internet, everything is fine for a while but then I am unable to either refresh a page or move to another. I just get the standard Unable to Connect page. Sometimes, it is fine for several hours yet other times plays up after just half an hour. I generally use Avant browser, but the same thing happens with IE.

I'm appending a Hijack This log in the hope that somebody will be able to help me with this.

Many thanks.

Neil

No it hasn't been misidentified by sys info BUT the poster has misquoted

the sys info site refers to

Anti-Virus Update Scheduler V1.39.12R X [various filenames] Added by the HEPLANE or STAPREW.B TROJANS! - different filenames have been spotted; examples: msvc.exe, kaspersky.exe, nrton.exe, wins.exe, gah32.exe, 1.tmp, syste.exe, alg.exe, socks.exe, winxpsp2.exe, tek9.exe, sks.exe, hihi.exe, s.exe, xps2.exe, dns2.exe, ikav32.exe and more...

so if it was the trojan inquestion the log would read somethiung like

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Anti-Virus Update] C:\WINDOWS\ps2.exe

That is one of the reasons we are being so strict on people posting advice about fixing in HJT logs when it really needs very careful examination of google or other search entries and look at all the entry NOT just the file name

Yes the log looks clean

getting back to yopur problem, that is frequently a symptom of an incorrectly configured firewall

make sure you havgen't got Mcafee firewall AND the XP SP2 firewall both turned on at the same time

I would disable the SP2 firewall

Thanks for your help Derek

I've checked and the SP Firewall is disabled. So is this likely to be something to do with the McAfee Firewall?

Cheers

Neil

It's possible that it is blocking one of the functions needed

if it happpens after a period of time then it is possible that it's blocking dhcp renewal

how do you connect, dial up, cable or Dsl

all I can suggest is check in Mcaffee firewall what is allowed and what is blocked

I suspect you will see something in the blocked list from your ISP's IP number but I don't use mcAffee so I can't really tell you where the settings are to check

Hi Derek

Had at a look at the Firewall and there are no banned IP's. Is this good?

Any other thoughts, at all?

Cheers

Neil, if you clear your Temp Internet Files & cookies while you are on the net does it extend the time before the problem occurs, especially when using IE.
