I have a 5 year old IBM T41 laptop (WinXP SP2). Recently it crashed now and then. So I tried to restore it to factory contents. I did this for many times before. But this time it died with blue screen in this process. Then I ran PC-docter to check my hardware. It told me something wrong with DIMM2. so I unplugged an extra memory. Then I passed the hardware diagnose. But restoring to factory still crashed.
I got the mini dump file out but could not find any useful information. Any suggestion is appreciated.

    IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL (a)
An attempt was made to access a pageable (or completely invalid) address at an
interrupt request level (IRQL) that is too high. This is usually
caused by drivers using improper addresses.
If a kernel debugger is available get the stack backtrace.
    Arguments:
    Arg1: f897da94, memory referenced
    Arg2: 00000002, IRQL
    Arg3: 00000001, bitfield :
    bit 0 : value 0 = read operation, 1 = write operation
bit 3 : value 0 = not an execute operation, 1 = execute operation (only on chips which support this level of status)
Arg4: 805121e0, address which referenced memory

See if it will start in Safe Mode. Press F8 repeating (normally) on first post.
    Choose Safe Mode.
If it loads. Start, My Computer (right click)
    Properties
    Hardware Tab then Device Manager.
Check for any warnings (yellow/red Shield)
Usually but not always this is a driver error on a device.
Have you installed any hardware recently OR downloaded any Booster/Cleaner programs.

Thank you for your reply. I did try to enter safe mode. But it failed and told me my windows wasn't totally installed. You know, the blue screen occured when I was recovering to factory contents.

Addtionally, I didn't install any hardware or booster/cleaner in last 4 years.

I'm not sure whether this is totally unable to boot or not. you know, when xp is starting up, there will be a progress bar indicates the progress. It goes to blue screen when it turns to the next screen. There is a dos version pc-doctor with my notebook. I did full memory scan and got a DIMM2 error. And as I said, after unplugged one memory stick, there is no error any more.

The DIMM2 error is definitely ram related if it is repeating.

However you may also have disk or registry corruption as a result of any previous ram issues.

Maybe, but pc-doctor didn't find any problem with my disk.

Didn't touch my laptop for a while. Today I restore it to factory content again. It crashes during the restore again. Luckily, this time it can enter safe mode. After disabling driver one by one, finally I found my wireless network adapter is not ok. Installing a latest driver solves the problem. thanks!
