I have a Toshiba Satellite M45-S265, which has a DVD-RAM drive in it. The drive is NOT APPEARING within My Computer.

When I open up System>Hardware>Device Manager, the drive shows a yellow exclimation point with this message revealed inside it's properties window:

The drive itself is listed as a MATSHITA DVD-RAM UJ-831S. I downloaded a driver from this website and attempted to install it, but the same problem occurs.

I've also tried Rolling the driver back (which didn't work because it said there was no previous driver to roll back to). I've uninstalled and reinstalled using the Add Hardware applet, but same problem still occurs.

    What should I try next?

    I fixed it. Here's how:

Locate and then remove the following registry values:

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class ***{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}LowerFilters

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class ***{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}UpperFilters

Close registry editor. I also went into the device manager one more time and removed the badly recognized device so it would be redetected and reinstalled upon next reboot. Problem solved.
