acer comes with a trial version of mcafee - are you using mcafee at all or is it on the PC
if so a recent update has caused this issue
    have a read here
    http://forums.techguy.org/networking/1065830-customers-may-experience-loss-network.html

    if not then

What firewall / security suite or anti-virus do you currently have on the PC - or you have ever had on the PC in the past - any trial ware - like Norton, Mcafee , AVG etc

    try in safemode
    - try safemode with networking
as the PC starts keep tapping F8 - a menu appears - choose
safemode with networking - see if that works
    ------------------------------------------------------------------------

if that does not work - go back to starting the pc normally
please post the following ping tests
    ------------------------------------------------------------------------
    Ping Tests
If you cannot access the internet with this PC, then you will need to paste the results into something like notepad and then copy onto a machine that can access the internet and post the results in a reply here.
Save the file to a USB flash drive or other removable media. Plug it into the working computer with internet access and copy the file and paste here.

Start> Run {search bar in Vista/W7}> type CMD to open a command prompt box
(A new dialogue box - black with white font, will appear on screen ):

    Type the following command
    Ping 192.168.200.1
Post back the results in a reply here
right click in the command prompt box
    select all
    enter
control key + C key - to copy
    then reply here and
control key + V to paste

    Type the following command
    Ping google.com
Post back the results in a reply here
right click in the command prompt box
    select all
    enter

It is using McAfee as its antivirus.

Restarted it in safe mode with networking but jumped back in to normal mode.

    that maybe the problem

would you post a screen shot of the connections
    ------------------------------------------------
how to show the IP and DNS settings screen

how to show the IP and DNS settings screen
    Start> {search bar in Vista/W7}> run {for XP}> type ncpa.cpl
that should open your "network connections" dialogue box
click on the adapter you want to see the properties information for - "local Area Connection" or "Wireless Network Connection"
right click on the icon - from the menu choose
    properties
    click on
Internet Protocol Version 4 (tcp/ipv4) entry
    click on
    properties button
Now lets see a screen shot of those settings

To post a screen shot of the active window.
    1) hold the Alt key and press the PrtScn key. Open the Windows PAINT application and Paste the screen shot. You can then use PAINT to trim to suit, and save it as a JPG format file.
    OR
    2) if you are using Vista/Windows 7 you can use the "snipping tool" which is found in Start> All programs> Accessories> Snipping Tool

To upload the screen shot to the forum, open the full reply window ("Go Advanced" button) and use the Manage Attachments button to upload it here.
Full details are available here http://library.techguy.org/wiki/TSG_Posting_a_Screenshot

    OR
Open Network Connections by clicking the Start button , clicking Control Panel, clicking Network and Internet, clicking Network and Sharing Center, and then clicking Manage network connections.

Right-click the connection that you want to change, and then click Properties. If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.

Click the Networking tab. Under This connection uses the following items, click either Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4), and then click Properties.
Now lets see a screen shot of those settings

    how frequently
do you have time between disconnects to post the ping tests when its working and when it disconnects

otherwise lets try google open dns

and post anther ipconfig /all - not sure i like the dns 192.168.200.2 - but that maybe set up in the router

    ------------------------------------------------------------------------

    Google public DNS

    Google public DNS
    http://code.google.com/speed/public-dns/

Theres also a link on how to setup those DNS IP address up on a PC
    http://code.google.com/speed/public-dns/docs/using.html

    How to set XP here
    http://techie-buzz.com/how-to/google-public-dns-on-win7-and-winxp.html

Then once you have set up those DNS entries

    Flush & register DNS

Hold the Windows key and press R, then type CMD then press Enter to open a command prompt box (A new dialogue box - black with white font, will appear on screen ):
In the command prompt window that opens, type the following commands:

    Ipconfig/flushdns
    ipconfig/registerdns

    If you receive the message
    The requested operation requires elevation.
Then please open the command prompt as administrator
Start> All Programs> Accessories and then right click on Command Prompt, select "Run as Administrator" to open a command prompt.

    now type the command again

unfortunately it seemed to be very brief when it disconnects and reconnects. Its only disconnected once since we've got it reconnected.

I think it is a set up DNS address as this is in my office.

I've restarted the Laptop a few times and seems to connect fine.

Would you like me to try the google open dns?
