    Hello

We were running 2 laptops wireless with out issues. Now all of a sudden 1 laptop has refused to load web pages. It says that it is connected to the modem with full strength, but times out on all pages. I have tried to ping yahoo, google with no luck.

    It is running Windows XP.
Modem is from Telstra Bigpond - Tomson TG782T gateway

I have also tried to connect directly via the ethernet cable with no luck.

Can you let me know what steps to take next please? My computer is working fine, running Vista. Any other information you need?

    Thanks
    K

Open Internet Explorer. Click Tools > Internet Options > Connections > Lan settings > Proxy server > Advanced > delete proxy server settings > click OK > uncheck all boxes > click OK.

In Firefox, click Tools > Options... > General > Advanced > Network > Settings > delete proxy settings > select No proxy > click OK.

In Internet Explorer, the proxy server is all greyed out, so I can't click on advanced. I guess that means that the settings are not there anyways?

Use a USB flash drive or other removable media to save HijackThis from a working computer. Then, plug it into your faulty computer to install the program:

Please click HERE to download and install HijackThis.

Run it and select Do a system scan and save a logfile from the Main Menu.

The log will be saved in Notepad. Copy and paste the log in your next reply.

    IMPORTANT: Do not fix anything

Have you tried disabling your firewall?

    If no luck,

Click Start > Run > type CMD

In the Command Prompt, type in the bold text, one command after the other, pressing Enter between each one of them:

Reset WINSOCK entries to installation defaults: netsh winsock reset catalog

Reset TCP/IP stack to installation defaults: netsh int ip reset reset.log

    Reboot the computer.

    If still no luck,

Click Start > Run > type CMD.

    Press OK.

In the Command Prompt, type ipconfig /all.

    Press Enter.

Copy (right-click and Select All > press Enter) the entire content of that window and paste it into your next reply.

Have you ever had or recently uninstalled Norton, McAfee, AVG or Avast?

    Why haven't you upgraded IE6 to IE7 or 8?

I think we had AVG for a while, but it kept letting stuff through so we changed to avira.
