[SOLVED] Cannot find modem on com 1

When my win 98 computer says when trying to detect modem says
cannot find modem on com 1
What could the problem be as I have a PCI modem installed though I am not sure if it is any good.

???

try changing the com port,try 3 and 5
i have not had much to do with pci modems but the ones i have installed have been on 3 or 5
what com is your mouse on

What happens when you go to modems in the control panel and click on "More Info"? Usually COM 1 is for the mouse. have you looked in device manager to see what's going on?

Did the modem ever work on this computer? Did you install the drivers for it?

I found out that the supposed new modem was no good.
