Hi,

I'm running XP on a Dell laptop and have recently lost access to my webmail. It is on a secure site. When I go to the site, I get the "There is a problem with the website's security certificate" message (this is normal). Then when I select "Continue to this website", I get the "Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage" message.

I can access the page fine on one of my other computers. I've had recent Windows, IE, and Symatec Updates. I've tried things like removing the Windows & IE updates for the last month (they are now restored), making sure my Internet Options match the other computer (that works), etc. with no luck.

Here is a copy of my HJT log:

Run HijackThis again.

Select Do a system scan only.

Put a check mark on:

R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings,ProxyServer = http=127.0.0.1:23012

Click Fix checked.

Try your Webmail again.

If still no luck,

Make sure your computer has the correct date and time.

Still no luck. Date and time look fine. I installed Firefox the other day (not that I really know how to use it), and it will get to the page fine (can't get all the way to webmail because it requires smart card credentials I haven't set up in Firefox).

If no luck, disable Symantec's Script Blocking (if present).

Had to run out for a bit. Read the whole page referenced and tried everything that looked relevant. Also couldn't find anything related to Script Blocking when I clicked on my Symantec Antivirus. Any more ideas (and thanks for the others).

You did take care of the proxy server settings in IE, right?

Yes. I re-ran HJT and searched for "proxy" in the log to make sure it was gone.

Only thing I can think of right now, if you haven't tried it already, is to disable Symantec.

Will give it a try. I noticed I got some updates about the time it quit working. Thanks.

All I could see that I could do is disable auto protect. Tried that and it didn't help. As I said before, I can get to the logon page (where I have to use my smart card) through Firefox. But I'll have to check with my IT guy at work to get the proper drivers to use Firefox I think. Using IE, I get the certificate warning and then when I say ok, I don't get the logon page (get the cannot display webpage message). I may just get the Symantec installation disk from my IT guy this week, uninstall Symantec, and then try getting to the page.

I downloaded the latest certificates for my application, and it fixed my problem. Thanks for the suggestions.
