Hello, I'm using Internet Explorer Version 6 and I can't delete the history. When I go into Internet Options, and click "Clear History," it doesn't work because when I check it in Explorer, it's still there! The only way I can delete the history is by deleting each item in the "By Order Visited Today" view. It doesn't even just let me delete by selecting the date. Does anyone know the cause of this problem? Can anyone tell me an alternate method of deleting history, or a 3rd party program that clears cookies and temporary internet files? I'd really appreciate any help you could give me. Thanks.

It may be your install of IE has somehow corrupted - you could try repair IE - go My Computer > Control Panel > Add / Remove Programs and click on IE, a box should popup offering you the chance to repair.

For utilities to perform the task you mentioned try here :

    http://www.spychecker.com/software/freeware_cookie.html

    Or search here :

    http://www.webattack.com

Click Freeware tab and search by category for something appropriate.

An alternate way to delete the history is delete the contents of
    C:\Documents and Settings\%username%\Local Settings\history

Note: you will have to enable viewing of hidden files.

Sounds like you don't want to keep your history around very long. Why don't you set the "Days to keep history" to zero? Also, isn't this a hardware forum????

    Try Empty Temp Folders.

It allows you to add any folder you want (TIF, History, Recent, Prefetch, Temp, Windows\Temp which some older installers still use, etc.). It also has a cookie manager, searches for temp files, shows URL's and History, and finds broken shortcuts.

Thanks for the suggestions everyone. I decided to try Tracks Eraser Pro which has a free 30 day trial. I erase all my cookies and personal tracks regularly because I'm on a shared computer. Some websites keep you logged in even if you delete the history, cache and cookies (don't ask me how). But Tracks Eraser Pro erases everything and it even has a secure shredder that overwrites up to 10 times.

After using Tracks Eraser a couple of times, I noticed that I could normally erase my history again. Though I don't need to do it manually anymore.
