I am trying to download and install User Profile Hive Cleanup Service from Microsoft onto a Vista machine and I keep getting the following error. How is this fixed? Thank you.

"There is a problem with the Windows Installer Package. A program run as part of the setup did not finish as expected. Contact your support personnel or package vendor."

My problem is that I am working on a Lenovo desktop with Vista Home Premium SP2 and the download to logon is slow. Shut down was slow but I adjusted the "WaittoKillServiceTimeout" key in the registry and that did the job for shutting down. I recently reinstalled Vista and upgraded RAM to 4GB. In System Configuration I set the number of processors to two as the processor is 1.60 gigahertz Intel Core Duo (multi core-2 total)

BOOT Advanced Options shows Maximum memory at 2944. Is this the way it should be? I tried changing it to a higher number (4000) but it defaulted back to 2944.

I suppose the big question to ask is how fast is the shut down and the boot up suppose to be? Am I expecting too much out of this machine. From the time the computer is turned on until you come to the password screen is 47 seconds (I am actually timing it). Once you hit enter after putting in the password it takes desktop window 16 seconds to completely load.

May I assume that this is good speed—or is it? If not, suggestions?

    Thanks.

With a 32-bit system the max memory will be from about 3 to 3.5 GB. So your 2.944 GB is disappointing, but nothing to worry about.

A little over a minute from power on to logged in and ready to go? I'd say that's pretty darn good for Vista! The 47 seconds to the password screen seems a little long, but I wouldn't worry about it (and I don't know if anything can be done about it).

Thanks. Wondering why the computer doesn't utilize all the RAM? I tried to increase the number to 4000MB in BOOT>>Advance, but then it seemed like it decreased even further and I changed it back to what it was. Anyway, I have a Vista computer that is slower than this one and I'm satisfied.

OK, then I will mark this thread as SOLVED unless anyone has anything more they'd like to suggest.

    Thanks again everyone.
