Thanks for your response. The router is a D Link , model dir-615. Right now I am connected through the router on my desktop, ethernet connection. Right below the network adapters I have 'other devices' with a ? on it and subtitle 'network controller' with ? and !.

Actually it did let me run, unzip successfully and says nine files were unzipped but I still have the same problem even after I restart my computer. I wanted to find out if I would need these as they are USB drivers, since I will be connecting using an adapter. Just thinking out load because I called time warner to see if they could help me with the drivers and they told me that since I can connect to the internet, and that my laptop will not be using a USB then I don't need the drivers for it.

It's an HP, model number zd8080us. What I mearnt is that I have connected my desktop through the router using an ethernet card and got my settings all worked out. I am actually emailing from the desktop that is connected right now. When I mentioned the USB I mearnt that I talked to time warner who asked me what I had under network adapters. I told them I had "other devices" with a yellow ? mark and also "Motorola surfboard 5222 USB cable modem" with a ? and ! mark. The tech is the one who told me that it didn't matter that I had those question marks because I need a wireless adapter and not the USB one. The only time I would have to worry about the error message would be if I was trying to do my wireless via USB cable, which I am not. I am trying to have my desktop connect through the router via ethernet and then connect my laptop wirelessly to it, I guess using the wireless network adapter. The tech told me I needed to buy the wireless network adapter and plug it in my USB port. I asked him why, because I didn't have to do that before and was able to connect wirelessly on the laptop and he said it might have gone bad. I don't know.

You don't need any drivers from Motorola for an Ethernet connection.

Hold the Windows key and press R, then type devmgmt.msc

Please respond to all the following steps.

    1. Under Network adapters, please tell me all the devices listed.
    2. Are there any devices under Network adapters that have a red x displayed?
    3. Also, are there any devices anywhere in the Device Manager display with yellow ? or ! displayed?

    Let's see this as well.

Hold the Windows key and press R, then type CMD then press Enter to open a command prompt:

In the command prompt window that opens, type type the following command:

Note that there is a space before the /ALL, but there is NOT a space after the / in the following command.

    IPCONFIG /ALL

Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter to copy the contents to the clipboard.
Paste the results in a message here.

If you are on a machine with no network connection, use a floppy, USB disk, or a CD-RW disk to transfer a text file with the information to allow pasting it here.

    Host name....................Solovan
    Primary Dns Suffix..........
    Node Type...................Unknown
    IP ROuting Enabled........No
    WINS Proxy Enabled......No

    Ethernet adapter Local Area Connection:
    Media State................Media disconnected
Description.................Realtek RTL8136/810x Family Fast Ethernet NIC
    Physical Address..........00-C0-9F-6C-80-56

You have no wireless hardware or it's missing it's drivers. That Network controller with the error is likely the adapter with missing or incorrect drivers.

You need to go to the laptop manufacturer's website and download and install the latest drivers for the wireless adapter.
