Help I have an important email to read on my other computer I tried booting up and it is just hanging on the windows screen, I have tried booting from my cd but I cant. I have tried R for repaIr but I am asked the following question 'which windows installation would you like to log into' How do you answer that?? I can do a reformat and fix it but I really do need to read this email. I did get a message whilst I was trying something else the following file is missing or corrupt windows root \system32\hal.dll. I thought a repair reinstall would fix it but I am not getting the option, I am gettin press any key to boot from cd so I know I can reformat from there as last resort.I hope someone can help. Thanks.

    Try.
Insert the XP cd in the CD ROM Drive then switch on the computer.

You will receive the following message:

This portion of the Setup program prepares Microsoft Windows XP to run on your computer:

To setup Windows XP now, press ENTER.
To repair a Windows XP installation using Recovery Console, press R.
To quit Setup without installing Windows XP, press F3.
    ----------------------------------------------------------
DO NOT at this point select R.... DO NOT SELECT R

    Select ENTER
    ----------------------------------------------------------
On the Windows XP Licensing Agreement screen
Press F8 to agree to the license agreement

Select current installation of Windows XP.and then

Press R to repair Windows XP.
    ----------------------------------------------------------
Follow the instructions that appear on the screen to repair Windows.
After you repair Windows , you may have to reactivate your copy of Windows XP

    Hal.dll
