On the attached screenshot you can see a Samsung printer - I replaced this with the HP one you can also see. he HP is set as default printer.

I have tried to remove the Samsung by right clicking and selecting remove but although it does disappear it is always there again when I restart my computer.

I have also tried to remove all files pertaining to Samsung but that has made no difference either.

I know it is only cosmetic but can anyone tell me how to remove this icon forever.

    Thanks.

When you right click on the printer do you see run as administrator? If you do click on that then try deleting the printer.

You didn't clarify exactly what you did.

Did you uninstall the software driver package for that Samsung printer or did you attempt to manually remove its files/folders and registry entries?

Check your startup items (msconfig) to be sure no Samsung service is starting.

    Thanks for the replies above.

When I open devices and printers it is shown and is 'greyed out'.

    I have tried the following:

Right click on icon and select remove

Click on file and from the menu select remove item

Click on remove device from the bar below the menu items

They all remove it but on re-opening devices and printers it is back again.

I have checked startup items and removed the one Samsung item that was there.

I removed the Samsung and Samsung live update folders from app data manually

I searched for any other Samsung foders but can't see any

I haven't removed the drivers as I don't know how to do that.

    Fixed it!!!!!

Further clicking around showed there were two documents in that printer's queue. Cancelling them has allowed the icon to be removed from printers and devices.

Thanks for your help and sorry if I wasted your time.
