    I reinstalled XP and am trying to install updates, including service pack. I have done this several times before without problem. This time, however, I am told "The website has encountered a problem and cannot display the page you are trying to view. The options provided below might help you solve the problem," and receive error message 0x80244019 and cannot proceed. I've followed all the instructions to rectify the problem, including installing and running the MSRT, and I ran "Fixit." I made certain that Automatic Updates was on and disabled my antivirus (AVG). No luck. I had installed a Radeon HD 4670 graphics card and read somewhere that Microsoft was not in sympathy with it for some reason, so I swapped in my ancient Radeon 9800 Pro, but still no luck. I'm frustrated. Please help.

    Google search:

    XP SP2->download and install manually
    XP SP3->download and install manually

    Download and install them manually. That should jumpstart your updates. Only SP3 is still being supported by Microsoft, so you must have it to receive updates.

    What version of Windows XP(including service pack number) is on the disc that you used to do a reinstall?

    If the disc has SP1 or SP2, download and save and then install the full 316 MB SP3 upgrade.

    After it's been upgraded to SP3, do a scan at Windows Update/Microsoft Update.

    There will be well over 100 high-priority updates to download and install.

    Your goal is to get Windows XP up-to-date and get all necessary device drivers installed BEFORE you start installing programs and extras in that computer.

    Thanks guys. My install disc had SP2 but no SP3. In the past that sufficed to get the updates going, which included SP3, but now I learn that updates don't work without SP3. I'm off and running now. Thanks.
