    :( Hi All,
Well, I downloaded a pdf file and saved it to my download folder and when a window appeared asking me what program did I want to use to open the file I guess i should have said pdf but instead i said word pad and the result was in a language I don't speak.Well i said , I'll just download it again and when the window pops up i'll make a better choice, but when i did that the window didn't pop up but decided to use word pad again to read the file. So I said "ok I 'll change the name of the file slightly and then windows will think it's a new file and ask me what program to use to open it and i'll make a better choice. But windows still wants to read it in word pad. Is there any hope of me reading this file?
    Thanks, john

You've accidentally associated the pdf extension with the wrong program.
Hold Shift key and right-click on file. Select Open With... and choose Acrobat Reader. Make sure the box is checked to "always use this program to open..."

As JSntgRvr has already advised you, you need the free Adobe Acrobat Reader to view and read PDF files. Version 6.0.1 is available for Windows 98/98SE/ME users.

Uncheck "Download the Adobe Yahoo toolbar", uncheck "Also download free Photoshop Album 2.0 Starter Edition software", and check "Do not use Adobe Download Manager" before you start the download.

    Thank you all,
I had been tryng to get rid of unused programs and I think I uninstalled 2 older versions of Adobe Reader thinking that I had a newer one installed - but it turns out as you figured out that I didn't have any at all. john
