I'm using Outlook Express 6 for my e-mail. Lately when I'm sending text messages I've noticed that I'm getting a window telling me there are pictures included that may not be sent, and do I still want to send. The odd thing is that these e-mails are simply text only messages. The e-mails work fine.

This just seems very odd. The HTML send pictures box is checked off. I guess my next step is to simply try and send a picture and see if it works. That still won't explain the first issue though. Any Ideas?

This happens to me too occasionally too. I just ignore them. My e-mails go through just fine and come in too even with pictures, so why should I worry about it. Computers are wonderful things but they are quirky sometimes.

I hear ya. I sometimes get too caught up in things needing to be perfect instead of focusing on whether or not something works. On the other hand I do like to ask questions here as a learning tool. I'm far from advanced and always looking to learn from more experienced users. Thanks for the reply.

Yes I was like that when I first started on the computer. 5 years later and I know a little more now but that's just a drop in the bucket compared to a lot of these guys. You can learn lots if you plug into the questions on this site, or ask some of your own. I've gotten some good advice here. Take care

Are you using an anti-virus to scan your emails?

Can you do a system restore to before this showed up?

Yep. This is not a virus or anything like that. My comp is completely virus free and this is not a problem that needs fixing. A little message that shows up once in a while and says the pictures are missing when there are no pictures is no big deal. If it works don't screw with it you might get more than you bargained for.

@ oil painter. If you don't care to pursue fixing your computer, don't post.

If you are using an anti-virus to scan emails with OE, you shouldn't.
Can cause all kinds of problems. As a minimum you should turn
off the email scanning portion. However that might not be enough.
You may have to uninstall and then reinstall it - using a custom
install to avoid the email scanning portion completely.

If you do have to uninstall, be sure to check to see if the email
scanning was the cause. Then reinstall without the email scanning.

No I'm not. My e-mail scan is from my internet provider. It is good too. I get no spam whatsoever. I have my computer checked out yearly by my computer technician. He built this computer and he's good and I often slip him a tip because I don't think he charges enough. For a very reasonable fee he cleans it,does a major check for viruses and gets rid of unnecessary stuff, updates my antivirus and keeps it in tip top shape. Believe me there is nothing wrong with my computer. You mean when you forward some e-mails you never get something like this. It may have been altered before you got it and that's why

I wouldn't change anything if your computer is working good just to get rid of the occasional little box. As I said if you get it when you are forwarding e-mails it might be that they were corrupted before you got them. You might be sorry if you change things.

A virus and spam are two different things. Almost everyone gets some
spam - junk mail. Some emails come in with a virus, that is what
email scanning checks. But it is redundant to run it, Bit Defender will
continue to scan your computer and if the virus attempts to come in
via an email, it will still stop it. Even Norton/Symantec admits to this....
Has the problem been just since resetting the cmos? Just to verify that
we are on the same page, you do have XP? When you reset the cmos,
do you mean you did a system restore? They really wouldn't be the same
thing. System files/registry settings are saved just in case of problems
either automatically or you can do so manually for a System Restore. If
you can do a system restore to a date before the problem started, it might
    very well fix it.

How to restore Windows XP to a previous state:

Can you send 2 emails to yourself...one with a picture file attached. And
one with a picture file embedded. In case you haven't embedded a
picture: Open OE->New Email->Insert->Picture. Browse to where you
have any small picture. Do you get the "picture will not be sent" with either
email? Do you receive them with pictures attached/embedded?

I'm out of this. Tylerjohn if you want to listen to this go right ahead. I told you I have no virus and I get this occasionally especially when I forward an e-mail. Before you do anything. check with your internet provider and see what protection they give. Mine gives full e-mail protection.

I seem to be unable to send myself a picture as an attachment or as an embedded picture. I don't really send nor receive many pictures so I bet this issue probably has been there.(getting those nasty OE error windows I truly can't decipher)I do have XP. I reset the cmos by alternating the jumper on the MB and removing and re-installing the battery.. Afterwords I did have to reset some bios settings and some minor windows settings. I must add that this PC is working flawlessly in all other regards so I don't know if System restore is a good idea or not. You'd know better.

The e-mail scanning was disabled in Bit defender by default. I noticed a setting in OE security that said to allow or not allow pictures(maybe attachments) that might contain viruses. Checked or unchecked didn't seem to matter. At very least it does appear I have some type of issue. I'll have someone else try and send me a picture. Thanks for your patience with this thread as this is not a strong area for me.

I don't see no reason to turn off email scanning with your antivirus. Why the hell recommend something like that? I always turned on this option for years and never had a problem with it.

Where are you sending it from--Outlook Exptress or else where?
Try insert on an e-mail Click on a picture then hold down the control button and add another one. then try to send.
Check to see if you have a restore date sometimes one hasn't been put in. It will show up in a bold colored square.. It won't do anything to your computer but take it back to that date. Try and think when this started. When it restores any changes or things downloaded since that date will be lost so think of that before you do it
