I have a Fujitsu Lifebook N Series laptop with an ATI HD2600 graphics card. I tried to update the driversby uninstalling the old ones and installing the new ones. I tried the complete package including Caatalyst Control Center as well as the individual driver and control center downloads. All I end up with is the ATI Install MAnager that keeps telling me I'm up to date. When I try to uninstall it I'm told nothing is installed. All I know is that the Control Center is nowhere to be found and the laptop is running on the basic windows drivers. What am I missing? Thanks

Is this 7.9? If so, I had the same problem on 2 different machines. Safe Mode, cleaning up old drivers, and several re-installations were no help and I just went back to 7.8. Hopefully, 8.0 will work right.

I don't think that we are the problem.

Another srange Vista quirk? It installed perfectly for me on 64 an 32. fwiw. 7.10 is out and working. I cannot see any changes but if you read the blurb that goes with it, it seems to be mainly updates for games players.

This is the 7.10 package. I tried to play the Timeshift demo and it required the latest driver. I've only had the laptop for a month or so and don't know what driver it came with. I didn't think a driver update would be such a pain. Is there a different routine for updating drivers in
Vista that I obviously don't know about?

One difference is the time it takes. It may be 15 minutes or more after the machine restarts before all the parts of the Catalyst are installed (at least for me).

Since the 7.10 is so new, and may have problems, I still think you should try 7.8 or maybe even 7.5. They are also pretty new since updates are so frequent.

To completely remove all instances of whatever ATI related files are on the laptop, I'm assuming I remove anything I can using Add/Remove and then clean the ATI file from the registry?

    These might help:

    Driver Cleaner Professional
    Nasty File Remover

I personally haven't cleaned the registry. I was more concerned with driver files that sometimes did not update and left partly new files and partly (sometimes poorly compatible) old files.

Nothing seemed to work to install the new driver. I was able to re-install the original driver set-up from the recovery disk that came with the laptop. Thanks for your help and I'm still open to suggestions for updating the driver.

Have you check the Fujitsu or ATI web sites for new drivers?
If they do not have any, then I do not think you will find any at this time.

What version came with the disk?

Are you positive that you were trying to install the correct driver? Was it an IGP?

You could also check with the Fujitsu site to see if they have any updated drivers. Presumably, they will have tested them with their machines.

The display driver on the recovery disk was listed as 8.3. The driver in the latest Catalyst version is 8.4. ATI says to use the Catalyst 7.10 version that I tried unsuccessfully and Fujitsu says I'm up to date. I think I'll just leave it alone for now. Thanks for your help.

I guess if it works, leave it well enough alone.
