Solved: catastrophic failure (0x8000ffff)

    i was trying to set up a restore point on my vista computer and this error poped up:
    catastrophic failure (0x8000ffff)
    what does this mean? how can i fix it? can i fix it?

    i just looked to see if i had restore points already made and by accident i found that there is actually two system restore apps one works and the other does not probably a confliction somewhere i think.

    What brand PC? And what other Restore app is it?

    my comp is a gateway. the two programs are windows usual system restore and back up status and configurations. the second one save documents gadet settings and other things like that.
