Try a different CD and/or try cleaning the CD.
You can also try cleaning the Optical Lens of the CD-ROM Drive with a CD-ROM Lens Cleaning CD.
Also, go to Device Manager and see if there is any conflicts (yellow exclamation marks) associated with your CD-ROM Drive. If there is, right click and delete it then re-boot your PC. It should recognize and reinstall the CD-ROM Drivers.
If that doesn't work you probably need to replace the CD-ROM Drive with a new one.

Try reading a cd from dos too, that should rule out hardware issues......boot with a boot disk and choose to start with cdrom support. The cdrom drive letter will be pushed one letter ahead. Change to the drive letter by typing

G:
and press enter

Then type dir
and press enter

If you can see a directory of the contents, the drive itself should be ok.

I wouldn't have thought of that until you mentioned it. Now we all know what else to try if it happens to us.
Glad you got it going.
Have a good day!
