Hey look my dads cd/rw wont open
except when i restart the drive opens slightly and closes. it does this twice.

it says a Benq 32x10x40 seamless link on the front.

i also dont really want to mess around with the settings.

(i tryed to open it (second time) and it opened but when i closed it, it opened slightly again and closed.)

any help??

there may be problems with the gears or something in that area. If you have a safety pin or paper clip you can insert it in to the emergency open spot ( a little hole usually on the front) if you have problems getting it that way the preceding answer is usually the problem.

Probably is dying. New ones are cheap now.
They are easy to change out. Just be sure the jumpers on the back of the new drive are set correctly.
If you need any help installing the new one, just ask.
