This will probably be considered a dumb q. but I failed in making the change so i need some help.
My Dad gave his old notebook to my brother and bro dear cant change the user name ! He goes into Start/CP/UA, and theres only 1 which says owner and another which says guest and that a/c is turned off. But the My Documents and all the XP and other s/w registration are in my dad's name..so how does my bro change all of that to his ?

Thanks in advance ! Swati

in the user admin can you just add another use (ie ur bro) and delete the other one?

sry, I'm not sure if you can delete the 'owner' account, but that's there presumably because your dad installed the OS on the machine and input his own details at the time, or whowever else installed the OS. The simplest way is to just add another user. the longer way is to format the laptop and reinstall the OS.

You could log in as Administrator under Safe Mode and make the changes - create a new account for your brother before deleting poor old dad. What was wrong with Create a New Account in Control Panel>User Accounts?

Nothing wrong with creating a new user in user accounts. I even made my bro the "owner" but my dad registered all the s/w in his name so Control Panel/System/General / Registered To reflects dads name. Same when he bought Office 2000 , he regd. it to his name... Nothing wrong with it being in his name but....

Thanks !
