Click Start > Run > type CMD

Click OK.

In the Command Prompt, type in the bold text, one command after the other, pressing Enter between each one of them:

Reset WINSOCK entries to installation defaults: netsh winsock reset catalog

Reset TCP/IP stack to installation defaults: netsh int ip reset reset.log

Restart the computer.

Also,

Have you checked all your browser proxy settings?

Thanks. I did resets and rebooted.
No luck!
Proxy settings are disabled. No proxy used.
It seems something global as it is affecting only http, ftp requests work!
I'try again doing the resets.

5 minutes...

Check if these Services are Started:

  • COM+ Event System (for WZC issues)
  • Computer Browser
  • DHCP Client
  • DNS Client
  • Network Connections
  • Network Location Awareness
  • Remote Procedure Call (RPC)
  • Server
  • TCP/IP Netbios helper
  • Wireless Zero Configuration (XP wireless configurations)
  • Workstation
All of these services should be Started, and their Startup Type should be Automatic (or perhaps Manual).

Are secure sites (https) also not connecting?

Have you checked if your firewall is blocking port 80?

Hey! I got it!
I uninstalled chrome and ran an installer I had in storage. The installer downloaded Chrome again and it did not work, but... Noe the options to proxy settings were visible:)
And.... There was proxy enabled check box pointing to an empty proxy address. I cleared the check and... Bingo Chrome working again! So.... Charles left the proxy enabled and grayed out the proxy settings...
Thanks
Phantom! you realy helped me discard all pssibilities. Take a note on this one... Gosh!,,,
Thanks again!
Mike
