    Alright, yesterday I got a bunch of spyware and virus infections. I have been fixing them but today, I keep getting a System32:Lzx32.sys BSOD. I would log in XP, and within a few minutes, the BSOD would pop up, forcing me to reboot. I did a research on this on google (on another computer) and I came upon this page;
    http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/topic77339.html

So, like it states on that page, I downloaded rustbfix.exe and combofix.exe and I ran rustbfix.exe. Rustbfix.exe said something like "the first step has been fixed, now reboot to activate blahblah on startup" or something along that line. I rebooted. Now, even in safe mode, whenever I log in XP, command prompt pops up, and just sits there. Its the only thing on the screen, besides my wallpaper. When I shut the command prompts off, there is nothing on the desktop, not even any toolbars or the start bar, yet I can control+alt+delete.

PLEASE, any kind of help will be appriciated!

Go to http://www.spywareinfo.com/~merijn/programs.php to download HJTsetup.exe
you will be asked for this, then follow the instructions below and wait for a gold shield member to assist you

    * Save HJTsetup.exe to your desktop.
    * Double click on the HJTsetup.exe icon on your desktop.
    * By default it will install to C:\Program Files\Hijack This.
    * Continue to click Next in the setup dialogue boxes until you get to the Select Additional Tasks dialogue.
    * Put a check by Create a desktop icon then click Next again.
    * Continue to follow the rest of the prompts from there.
    * At the final dialogue box click Finish and it will launch Hijack This.
    * Click on the Do a system scan and save a log file button. It will scan and then save the log and then the log will open in Notepad.
    * Click on "Edit > Select All" then click on "Edit > Copy" to copy the entire contents of the log.
    * Paste the log in your next reply.
    * DO NOT have Hijack This fix anything yet. Most of what it finds will be harmless or even required.

OK good there are a few issues here but I think I would wait for a gold shield member to assist you, two things I do notice that can be potential problems are No1 you have the eBay toolbar installed?? I and a few people I know have had problems with the toolbar, it throws out a lot of settings and if you can live without I would delete it. No2. I do not see any active Java on your system?? Go to add/remove programs look for Java 1.4 or 1.5 it might show 1.5 as two or three programs, remove them all and go here http://java.sun.com/javase/downloads/index.jsp and download and install Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 6
when this is done sit tight and wait for a gold shield member.

    Hi, Valfar :)

    Welcome to TSG.

    Please create a Restore point:
    1. Click Start, point to All Programs, point to Accessories, point to System Tools, and then click System Restore.
    2. In the System Restore dialog box, click Create a restore point, and then click Next.
    3. Type a description for your restore point, such as "Before VirusScan", then click Create.

The steps that I am about to suggest involve modifying the registry. Modifying the registry can be dangerous so we will make a backup of the registry first.

Modification of the registry can be EXTREMELY dangerous if you do not know exactly what you are doing so follow the steps that are listed below EXACTLY. if you cannot preform some of these steps or if you have ANY questions please ask BEFORE proceeding.

    Backing Up Your Registry
    1. Go Here and download ERUNT
(ERUNT (Emergency Recovery Utility NT) is a free program that allows you to keep a complete backup of your registry and restore it when needed.)
    2. Install ERUNT by following the prompts
(use the default install settings but say no to the portion that asks you to add ERUNT to the start-up folder, if you like you can enable this option later)
    3. Start ERUNT
(either by double clicking on the desktop icon or choosing to start the program at the end of the setup)
    4. Choose a location for the backup
(the default location is C:\WINDOWS\ERDNT which is acceptable).
    5. Make sure that at least the first two check boxes are ticked
    6. Press OK
    7. Press YES to create the folder.
    Registry Modifications

Download the enclosed file. Save and extract its contents to the desktop. It is a folder containing a Registry Entries file, Regfix.reg . Don't do anything with it yet. We will run it shortly.

Please download the Killbox by Option^Explicit.

Note: In the event you already have Killbox, this is a new version that I need you to download.
    • Save it to your desktop.
Please re-open HiJackThis and scan. Check the boxes next to all the entries listed below.

    R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Default_Page_URL = about:blank
    R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Default_Page_URL = about:blank
    R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Local Page = about:blank
    R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Local Page = about:blank
    F2 - REG:system.ini: Shell=cmd.exe
    F2 - REG:system.ini: UserInit=C:\WINDOWS\system32\userinit.exe,jrcwqkt.exe
    O2 - BHO: (no name) - {B7BC5CCE-E6CE-43DB-B3E3-DA47DDDD4A5E} - (no file)
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [eqbuhg] c:\windows\system32\eqbuhg.exe eqbuhg
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [impcykjn] C:\a^vkyvna.bat
    O20 - Winlogon Notify: wineij32 - wineij32.dll (file missing)
    O21 - SSODL: CDRecorder029 - {A3BC5E20-0235-1ABF-9CE1-00AA00512029} - (no file)

Now close all windows and browsers, other than HiJackThis, then click Fix Checked.

    Close Hijackthis.

Doubleclick on the Regfix.reg file now and select Yes when prompted to merge it into your registry.
    • Please double-click Killbox.exe to run it.
    • Select:
      • Delete on Reboot
      • then Click on the All Files button.
    • Please copy the file paths below to the clipboard by highlighting ALL of them and pressing CTRL + C (or, after highlighting, right-click and choose copy):

      c:\windows\system32\jrcwqkt.exe
      c:\windows\system32\eqbuhg.exe
      C:\a^vkyvna.bat

    • Return to Killbox, go to the File menu, and choose Paste from Clipboard.
    • Click the red-and-white Delete File button. Click Yes at the Delete on Reboot prompt. Click OK at any PendingFileRenameOperations prompt (and please let me know if you receive this message!).

If your computer does not restart automatically, please restart it manually.

If you receive a message such as: "Component 'MsComCtl.ocx' or one of its dependencies not correctly registered: a file is missing or invalid." when trying to run Killbox, click here to download and run missingfilesetup.exe. Then try Killbox again.

Download SDFix and save it to your Desktop.

Double click SDFix.exe and it will extract the files to %systemdrive%
(Drive that contains the Windows Directory, typically C:\SDFix)

Please then reboot your computer in Safe Mode by doing the following :
    • Restart your computer
    • After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, tap the F8 key continually;
    • Instead of Windows loading as normal, the Advanced Options Menu should appear;
    • Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode, then press Enter.
    • Choose your usual account.
    • Open the extracted SDFix folder and double click RunThis.bat to start the script.
    • Type Y to begin the cleanup process.
    • It will remove any Trojan Services and Registry Entries that it finds then prompt you to press any key to Reboot.
    • Press any Key and it will restart the PC.
    • When the PC restarts the Fixtool will run again and complete the removal process then display Finished, press any key to end the script and load your desktop icons.
    • Once the desktop icons load the SDFix report will open on screen and also save into the SDFix folder as Report.txt
(Report.txt will also be copied to Clipboard ready for posting back on the forum).
    • Finally paste the contents of the Report.txt back on the forum with a new HijackThis log

I am confused at the step where you tell me
"Download the enclosed file. Save and extract its contents to the desktop. It is a folder containing a Registry Entries file, Regfix.reg . Don't do anything with it yet. We will run it shortly."

I dont know what to download and extract. Do you mean Regfix.reg? Where do I find it?

    Hi, Valfar :)

Run Killbox.exe. Paste the following location into Killbox. Checkmark the box that says "Delete on Reboot" and checkmark the box "Unregister DLL" (If available) Click the RED X and it will ask you to confirm the file for deletion…say YES and when the next box opens prompting you to reboot now...click YES and it will reboot.

    C:\Program Files\Common Files\svchost.exe

If your computer does not restart automatically, please restart it manually.

Checkmark the box that says "Delete on Reboot" and checkmark the box "Unregister DLL" (If available) Click the RED X and it will ask you to confirm the file for deletion…say YES and when the next box opens prompting you to reboot now...click no...and proceed with the next file. Once you get to the last one click YES and it will reboot.

    C:\Documents and Settings\Ali\Application Data\Install.dat

If your computer does not restart automatically, please restart it manually.

    1. Enter your Control Panel and double-click on Network Connections
    2. Then right click on your Default Connection
      • Usually Local Area Connection for Cable and DSL, or AOL Connection.
    3. Left click on Properties
    4. Double-Click on the Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) item

    Exit

    Restart the computer.

    Hi, Valfar. :)

    Congratulations.[IMG]

Reset and Re-enable your System Restore to remove bad files that have been backed up by Windows. The files in System Restore are protected to prevent any programmes changing them. This is the only way to clean these files: (You will lose all previous restore points which are likely to be infected.)

To reset your restore points, please note that you will need to log into your computer with an account which has full administrator access. You will know if the account has administrator access because you will be able to see the System Restore tab. If the tab is missing, you are logged in under a limited account.

    (Windows XP)

    1. Turn off System Restore.
On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
    Click Properties.
    Click the System Restore tab.
    Check Turn off System Restore.
Click Apply, and then click OK.

    2. Reboot.

    3. Turn ON System Restore.

On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
    Click Properties.
    Click the System Restore tab.
    UN-Check *Turn off System Restore*.
Click Apply, and then click OK..

    Create a Restore point:
    1. Click Start, point to All Programs, point to Accessories, point to System Tools, and then click System Restore.
    2. In the System Restore dialog box, click Create a restore point, and then click Next.
    3. Type a description for your restore point, such as "After Cleanup", then click Create.

The following is a list of tools and utilities that I like to suggest to people. This list is full of great tools and utilities to help you understand how you got infected and how to keep from getting infected again.
    1. Spybot Search & Destroy - Uber powerful tool which can search and annhilate nasties that make it onto your system. Now with an Immunize section that will help prevent future infections.
    2. AdAware - Another very powerful tool which searches and kills nasties that infect your system. AdAware and Spybot Search & Destroy compliment each other very well.
    3. SpywareBlaster - Great prevention tool to keep nasties from installing on your system.
    4. SpywareGuard - Works as a Spyware "Shield" to protect your computer from getting malware in the first place.
    5. IE-SpyAd - puts over 5000 sites in your restricted zone so you'll be protected when you visit innocent-looking sites that aren't actually innocent at all.
    6. CleanUP! - Cleans temporary files from IE and Windows, empties the recycle bin and more. Great tool to help speed up your computer and knock out those nasties that like to reside in the temp folders.
    7. Windows Updates - It is very important to make sure that both Internet Explorer and Windows are kept current with the latest critical security patches from Microsoft. To do this just start Internet Explorer and select Tools > Windows Update, and follow the online instructions from there.
    8. Google Toolbar - Free google toolbar that allows you to use the powerful Google search engine from the bar, but also blocks pop up windows.
    9. Trillian or Miranda-IM - These are Malware free Instant Messenger programs which allow you to connect to multiple IM services in one program! (AOL, Yahoo, ICQ, IRC, MSN)
To find out more information about how you got infected in the first place and some great guidelines to follow to prevent future infections you can read this article by Tony Klein.
