Every time I remove a disc from my D: drive (having formatted and copied data to it) my computer crashes as soon as the drive door shuts (after I have removed the disk).

Blue screen with lots of white writing talking about physical memory dump and all sorts of other terrifying things!

I have to then switch off and re-boot.

Can anyone help with this error?

    Tks:eek:

If your hardware is causing the problem, then you just need to replace your drive.

If its in software, first try to see if there's an update for the software that you use for burning CD'S.

This probably won't work, but you could also try this: in Windows XP

Go to START, then CONTROL PANEL, then SYSTEM, and select the HARDWARE tab.

Then click on the "Device Manager" button
When the box with your devices comes up, click on the + sign next to Disk Drives. Right click on your D: drive and click uninstall but make sure that you DON'T uninstall the driver.

After that, click on "Action" at the top of the box and then click "Scan For Hardware Changes".

After it finds your drive, try to see if everything is normal now.

If there's a short going on with your drive, this won't work. You'll need a new drive.

Thank you - very much - for the advice.

The actions you gave via Control panel onwards seemed to have worked!

Just out of interest ... what do you think was causing the problem?

    Many, many, many thanks anyway!;)

The advice given earlier worked for a while and then it returned.

Since then I have downloaded a patch from Microsoft that deals with Ox00000007E problems. It seems to have worked for now....but if the problem returns, I will post another message on here.

Downloading the patch from Microsoft has not solved the problem - the computer still crashes on when the CD drive door opens/closes.
