Ok my girlfriend has an Acer Aspire 1500. In the past 3 weeks her computer will shut down at random. Mostly within 20 minutes of being on it. I have no idea how to check into bios or even open the computer and locate the power supply or even what im looking for so i may need help on that. There are no virus', malware or spyware on the computer but there are bad sectors on her hard drive. In the past i have had bad sectors on my hard drive but it never caused my computer to shut down, so dont know if that could be the reaosn. Anyone know how to check the bios? or even the power supply to see whats wrong? If you need any other information please let me know. Thanks

Make sure that the fans are not clogged and the machine is not overheating.

    Hi,

do you have a windows XP pro cd? If so boot into recovery console and run chkdsk /p /r this will run a full check on your HDD for bad sectors and it will try and fix them. At the end of the scan it will give a report, let us know what it says.

Much better idea, if you know there are bad sectors on a hard drive, I would never keep it running.
