I am getting an error when starting Windows 98. My computer freezes up until I hit esc and then I get a message that my config.sys may be corrupt. the line it refers to is C:\CDROM\IDE.SYS. After a few seconds my computer continues loading Windowa and everything seems fine. Any suggestions on how to clear this annoyance?

    Hi jiminyt

go to start\run\ type msconfig then ok

    untick "process config.sys file"

reboot and see if that helps

And after you do that, test the cdrom to be sure it still works :)

Typically you don't need any CD ROM drivers in your config.sys or autoexec.bat file. Just add a REM before each line and reboot.
