I have an hp Photosmart C7200 which is the printer for my home network. I just bought win 7 and I'm having a hard time connecting to it. When I try to add a printer I can see the printer but when I click on it to select it, win 7 say's it can't connect to it. I DL the software for win 7 at hp.
The tricky part is getting the share name of the printer right. It was showing up in my version of Win 7 as printer 1, 2, and 3.
But when I looked at the printer properties in XP in the general tab it said "HP Photosmart C7200 series". And that's the name I was trying to connect to but it said something like it couldn't find the HP Photosmart C7200 series.
Then I clicked on the sharing tab and the share name was "printer3".
I also DL the software Win 7 for the printer but couldn't find the right file for it to install so I just used what windows gave me. Now so far everything seems to be working fine.
There are new drivers for the HP C7200 series printers that support Windows 7, have you tried those? I have a C78280, and the new drivers work fine on my Windows 7 boxes.
Hi John, Yeah I DL the software for Win 7 for that printer and I couldn't find the driver it wanted. So I used the drivers Windows 7 give ya. I just got tired of fighting with it. It gave me a flash back to the days of Windows 98 trying to install drivers and such.
Sorry for the delay John. But yeah it's working now with the drivers windows gives ya. I unzipped the file you get from hp and extraced them to a folder on the desktop. Then I couldn't find the inf, or ini file it wanted to install hp's drivers. That's when I just installed the files windows gives ya for that printer.
