I have an old PC which has a motherboard that will only take a IDE HDDs.
I was thinking about buying a new SATA HDD for my main PC and using one of the smaller SATA HDDs in the old PC.
What I need to know is if there is some special way that I would need to connect this up? Is there an adaptor that I would need to convert the HDDs SATA connection to an IDE to connect to the motherboard? I can see plenty of adaptors that convert the other way around to connect an IDE drive to a SATA connection, but I would need the other way.

Thanks

These might be samples of what you are looking for. Havent used any of them so can not endorse. Should be able to find them from NewEgg, etc.

I would not use an adapter. Go with a sata controller card. While you can find these pretty cheap, you get what you pay for [at least in this case]

Good brands are highpoint or promise. You will pay more for one of these however it is worth it.

I ended up getting one of these IDE to SATA convertors

I considered getting a SATA controller card, but unfortunately the cheapest I was able to find available in Australia was about $70 AUD. The above convertor was only $10 and it seems to work fine. The only problem I had was while changing the other HDD was the convertor came loose very easily, but not a problem while the case is closed.
