I have a series 3 TiVO PVR and heard you can attach an eSATA drive to increase recording capacity.

I also heard that you need to buy the drive from TiVO itself (of course its twice the price of a stock standand drive of the same capacity).

Can i just go and buy a eSATA from the shops and plug it in or do i have to use theirs?

    Thanks in advance

If it's like earlier TiVo units, they "pre-format" the drive and have a special signature. It may be possible to find a utility to put the signature on the drive, Google is your friend.
