Is this sound continuous with no breaks in it.
Your Motherboard Aopen MX36LE use Award BIOS and a continuous no break sound upon initial boot generally means RAM failure. If you have more than one stick of RAM in your system remove stick from slot zero and replace it with ram stick in slot one. See if your system will boot.
Also do you see but one line on your monitor saying award bios such and such?

cheers fellas. old RAM didn't work in either slot ,just replaced it with a 256 stick, now works fine.

one question though - new RAM stick says 256mb ECC PC100 on the packet - go to look at it in my computer and it shows up as 248 mb. whats all that about?
