    Hi,

I am about to buy a new CPU. What CPU would be better, Core 2 Duo E8400 or Core 2 Quad Q9400, considering I do the following things on the computer:

    - A lot of Visual Basic and Photoshop
    - Surfing
    - Listening to music
    - A little *gaming* (some old games like CS or something).

    Thank`s in advance.

For Photoshop the Quad Core will be better, for multitasking the Quad Core will be better, for old games it really won't matter as either one will be more then enough.

Have you made sure your motherboard supports either one of these CPU's? You may need to do a BIOS update before installing the new CPU.

    Thank`s for the answer.

So, I am getting Core 2 Quad Q9400.

    I have another question.

As I can`t get the retail package of the CPU, I am getting the CPU only without the cooler...

Currently I have the stock cooler from Pentium D 925. Would it be OK to cool the Quad core CPU with this cooler?

Should be yes, the TDP of both CPU's is 95 watt so you should be OK.

Some OEM processors do come with the heatsink.

Thank you. As soon as I buy the CPU, I`ll try with the cooler I have now. If some problems occur, I`ll buy a cooler that is supposed to cool Core 2 Quad CPU.

The processor I am buying won`t come with a heatsink. :(

Again, thank`s for the replies and have a nice day... :)
