Uninstall WebRebates or Weboffer and WinTools

    Restart your computer.

Before we start, let's disable your System Restore. After the infection's been cleaned re-enable system restore.
Disabling System Restore in Windows XP Disable System Restore in Windows ME

IF, for some reason, you lose the ability to use IE or lose your internet connection...open HJT-->"Config"-->"Backups"-->"Restore".

Open HiJackThis. Click "Scan". Put a checkmark next to these:

Close ALL browser windows (except HiJackThis ;) ) and click "Fix checked."

    Re-start your computer.

    NEXT:

Re-start your computer into safe mode:

How to start your computer in Safe Mode

    NEXT:

Because XP will not always show you hidden files and folders by default, Go to Start > Search under "More advanced search options", make sure there is a check by "Search System Folders" and "Search hidden files and folders" and "Search system subfolders"

Next click on "My Computer". Go to "Tools" ---> "Folder Options". Click on the "View" tab and make sure that "Show hidden files and folders" is checked. Also, uncheck "Hide protected operating system files" and "Hide extensions for known file types" . Now click "Apply to all folders"

    Click "Apply" then "OK".

    NEXT:

    Find and delete:

    WebRebates folder

    cards762.exe

    s3gfat.exe

    WinTools folder

    Web Offer folder

Also in safe mode navigate to the C:\Windows\Temp folder. Open the Temp folder and go to Edit > Select All then Edit > Delete to delete the entire contents of the Temp folder.

    http://www.computerhope.com/issues/ch000225.htm

Next navigate to the C:\Documents and Settings\ <user's name>\Local Settings\Temp folder. Open the Temp folder and go to Edit > Select All then Edit > Delete to delete the entire contents of the Temp folder.

Finally go to Control Panel > Internet Options. On the General tab under "Temporary Internet Files" Click "Delete Files". Put a check by "Delete Offline Content" and click OK. Now click the "Delete Cookies" button and click OK.

    Empty the Recycle Bin

Re-start your computer and post another HJT log.

Hi! I did what you said, however, I ran into a problem when trying to delete bothe, S3GFAT & Cards762.exe. I received an error message saying I could not delete them the access was denied. Make sure the disk is not full or write protected and file is not currently in use. I was in safe mode when I was trying to do this. I completed the rest of the tasks and my HJT log is below. Thanks so much!

We'll disable the start up entry. It won't delete the file, just stop it from loading. If anything "complains" about it missing, restore it following the instructions below.

IF, for some reason, you lose the ability to use IE or lose your internet connection...open HJT-->"Config"-->"Backups"-->"Restore".

    Fix these with HiJackThis:

    R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,CustomizeSearch = res://C:\PROGRA~1\Toolbar\toolbar.dll/sa

    R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Toolbar,LinksFolderName =

    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [instal] F:\install\install.exe

    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [WinTools] C:\Program Files\Common Files\WinTools\WToolsA.exe

    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [7s7j3nS] s3gfat.exe

Restart into safe mode and delete the WinTools folder and the s3gfat.exe file.

Once I removed install\install.exe and then went into safemode, I still could not delete S3Gfat.exe, however, I was able to delete cards762.exe. Any suggestions on the s3gfat.exe? I have posted my latest HJT log below.

    Thanks so much!

Press Control-Alt-Delete at the same time to bring up Task Manager.

Click the "Processes" tab and right click s3gfat.exe and end the process.

    Fix it with HiJackThis again.

Restart and post another HJT log.

Open HJT. Click "Config"--->"Misc. Tools"--->"Delete a file on reboot"--->browse for the s3gfat.exe file.
