I was trying to make a set of of system recovery disks(Win7) but was unable to finish the last 2 out of 3 disks needed due to write errors on low quality DVD's. When I got a new set of DVD-R disks to finish the job, I found that the Recovery Disk Creation program starts off where it ended. I need to be able to start the disk creation from the beginning but the disk creation program won't let me do this. Is there a way?

I think the other OEMs have this restriction also .. Probably some stupid M$ requirement

    DVD-R ???? ... Might be better to use DVD+R ... I use Sony DVD+Rs
If an HP ... And it don't work .. HP owes you a free set .. Is it still under Warranty??
Not sure about the other OEMs .. I'm only familiar with HPs.

If you have an external HD .. You can make a backup/recovery Image .. See Here and Here

In addition to a recovery method .. I'd suggest making a Repair CD .. see Here

W7 OEM recovery DVDs cannot perform a repair install .. The repair CD may be needed.

If DVD (1) is OK .. You could finish up 2 & 3 on other DVDs.
You can't make more than one set using the recovery DVD Creator ...
But you can COPY the DVDs .... And make a backup set.
This makes the one set restriction kind of Stupid.

agree, Sony, Toshiba, Acer and Samsung, do not have this restriction, HP say its for copyright reasons only one copy can be made, Whenever i set up a laptop I like to make two copies of the recovery DVDs and have done for the above makes on both laptop and desktop

FWIW .. I usually "Image" the system .. BEFORE I make the recovery DVDs.
The "Image" can always make another.

The last time I had a "chat" with HP about sending a Recovery set .. They wanted my credit card number.
I told them they had 2 choices .. send a Free set .. or I'd return the HP for one that worked.
The next Email asked for the shipping address.

Thanks everybody for your input. I told HP about it and how I tried DVD-R and DVD+R and it still didn't work. HP's reply was they will send me a set, free of charge. Problem solved.

Make sure you make a W7 Repair CD ... Never know when You'll need it.
If you have two optical drives .. I always burn a copy, Just in case.

Somewhere at the top of this page ... You can mark this problem Solved
