First download CWshredder from http://www.thespykiller.co.uk then Run it
Close all browser windows, click on the cwshredder.exe then click "FIX" (Not "Scan only") and let it do it's thing.

Now as CWS installs via the byte verifier exploit in M$ JavaVM, just surfing a page with an infected applet can install it with no user participation. So once you’ve run the above, it is vital that you go here, click Scan for updates in the main frame, and download and install all CRITICAL updates recommended.

    then reboot &

Download and unzip or install these programs/applications if you haven't already got them. If you have them, then make sure they are updated and configured as described

    Spybot - Search & Destroy from http://security.kolla.de
    AdAware 6 from http://www.lavasoft.de/support/download

    Run Sybot S&D

After installing, first press Online, press search for updates, then tick the updates it finds, then press download updates. Beside the download button is a little down pointed arrow, select one of the servers listed. If it doesn't work or you get an error message then try a different server

Next, close all Internet Explorer and OE windows, press 'Check for Problems', and have SpyBot remove all it finds that is marked in RED.

    then reboot &

    Run ADAWARE

Before you scan with AdAware, check for updates of the reference file by using the "webupdate".
the current ref file should read at least 01R289 13.04.2004 or a higher number/later date

    Then ........

Make sure the following settings are made and on -------"ON=GREEN"
From main window :Click "Start" then " Activate in-depth scan"

    then......

click "Use custom scanning options>Customize" and have these options on: "Scan within archives" ,"Scan active processes","Scan registry", "Deep scan registry" ,"Scan my IE Favorites for banned URL" and "Scan my host-files"

    then.........

go to settings(the gear on top of AdAware)>Tweak>Scanning engine and tick "Unload recognized processes during scanning" ...........then........"Cleaning engine" and "Let windows remove files in use at next reboot"

then...... click "proceed" to save your settings.

Now to scan it´s just to click the "Scan" button.

When scan is finished, mark everything for removal and get rid of it. (Right-click the window and choose"select all" from the drop down menu) then press next and then say yes to the prompt, do you want to remove all these entries.

    reboot again

then post a new hijackthis log to check what is left

Hello ~Iselle... I got your PM. Sorry for the delay, but I've been quite busy lately with a project here at home.

The instructions dvk01 provided are basically the same as I would give you. All you have to do is click once on the links (the underlined text that changes the mouse cursor to a pointing finger when you hover over it) he gave you and go through the download and install process. Then follow the step by step instructions he gave to setup and run the tools.

As far as unzipping them is concerned.. Just double click on the downloaded file and it should open your archive program, if you have one. If you don't, you computer will tell you so. If that is the case, post back and I'll give you a place to get an achieve program.

I suggest you highlight and copy the instructions and paste them into NotePad or Word. Then print them so they can be referred to when needed.

Try to stay calm and we will get you through this. If what you need to do is still unclear, post back with specific questions.

    islovesyou,

I can't help you with this particular problem, but I just wanted to tell you that I am pretty much in the same boat as you when it comes to computers. They scare me, too, lol. Everytime I'm instructed to do something I've never done before, I attempt it with a pounding heart and sweaty palms

I haven't been a member of this site long, but I can tell you that the computer experts here are great people and very patient and helpful. I've learned more just browsing here and asking a question here and there this past few weeks, than I have in the last two years of trying to find out things on my own. I have a great customer service guy from the place that built my computer for me, but even so, it always seems that you must first know what kind of questions to ask  !

It does get confusing sometimes, especially when typing back and forth. I had a complicated problem and we all got confused for a few posts about what we were all referring to, lol, but it got sorted out. Just be patient and don't get discouraged, the nice people here will do what ever they can to fix your problem.

Oh, and no you didn't post anything here that will allow someone to steal your life, all you did was post what is installed in your computer. None of your personal information. :D

If you have completed the steps Derek suggested pleas post another Hijack This log. There will be some entries left to be fixed with HJT and some files to delete.

What happens when you delete the MyPCSearch Icon?

Is there an entry in Add/Remove programs for MyPCSearch? If so uinstall it.

Let's see another Hijack This log.
