Looked over Hi-Jack log and it appears clean. There are several programs that could be the hitting disk causing scandisk and defrag restarts.
First thing to try is restarting the computer. While computer is first restarting start tapping the F8 key. Continue tapping the F8 key until a selection screen appears. Arrow to SafeMode and hit enter.

Once in safemode, (weird looking compared to normal),
try scandisk first from then if successful try defrag.

Note: Both utilities may take a bit of time to complete so be patient.

Take care

i don't see it on your log but check your startup menu for a windows update KB891711 and uncheck it.read post at the top about this update.

1. Press Ctrl-Alt-Delete at the same time to open the CLOSE PROGRAM window. Click on and highlight a listing, then click End Task. Repeat the process until everything is gone, except for "Explorer" and "Systray".
(Note: If a window appears with a message, ignore the message and click End Task again)

2. Right-click an empty space on the desktop, then click Properties. When the Display properties window appears, click Screensaver(tab). Change the screensaver type to "None", then click Apply - OK.

You should now be able to run Scandisk and Disk Defragmenter without interruption. Do not use the keyboard or mouse during this time.

If doing the above does not work, follow Davey's advice and restart your computer in safe mode.

----------------------------------------------------------------

Your computer has programs running in the background that do not need to be. The smaller the startup list is kept, the better and faster your computer will run.

Click Start - Run, type in MSCONFIG, then click OK - Startup(tab). Remove the checkmark from the following:

taskmon.exe

loadpowerprofile
(both entries)

loadqm.exe

mstask.exe

osa9.exe

Once you are done, click Apply - OK, then reboot.
