One of my favorite features of ccleaner is that I can delete start up items from my list.

I know through windows you can disable them with the "msconfig" command. But how would I go about deleting them permanently without the use of a 3rd party app.

    Thanks

Some items reappear every time there is a update to that program, and there is not much one can do.

That I understand, but what I'm trying to learn here is how to delete an item from "msconfig" not just disable it.

I think it will take a registry hack to remove the entry, BUT, as soon as a new updates comes along, it will be added back.

you need to edit the registry at
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run

Once you have the unnecessary programs set to NOT start up in msconfig ....
You can install the freeware Winpatrol ..
The next time something tries to add a start up .. Winpatrol will ask you if it's OK or NOT ..

I've made it a habit to check msconfig > Startup, or Autoruns, each time I install a new program or update one.

ctfmon.exe is an entry that comes each time no matter how many times you have disabled it.
Has anyone found any way to delete it from startup permanently?

The startup entries can be also found under this key:
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run

Control Panel > Regional, Language Options > Languages tab > Details button > Advanced tab
place a tick in 'turn off advanced text services'
