I have a Dell Inspiron 5150. The other day, it went into standby after idling while on the battery. Since then the far right diagnostic light (battery charge status) has been flashing three quick orange and one long green. The computer runs fine off of AC power and battery power, and the battery is fully charged. Has anyone ever seen this before or know what it means? Even though it seems to be working, I don't want to risk anything going wrong. Any recommendations? Thanks!

    Hello,

I have a Dell Inspiron 5150. About 2 years ago the exact thing happened with the light. I spent a lot of time on the phone with Dell tech support. We checked all kinds of things (I can't remember exactly what now as it has been 2 years), but eventually they said that they didn't know what was causing the probem and that I'd have to live with it. The light still blinks exactly the same to this day although the laptop has always seemed to work just fine all along.

Thanks. I also posted on the Dell forum, and received a reply. They said that it means that one or more of the battery cells has failed and I may need a new battery soon. But I'm very glad to hear that yours is still working 2 years later. I keep mine plugged in most of the time anyways, I just wanted to know what it meant so I would be prepared. Thank you for your response!
