I recently bought two different Dell monitors, both have USB cables with them.

Can anyone please advise what the cables actually do? I know from reading the instructions that I'm supposed to use one but the monitor seems to work just a well if I unplug it.

The reason I'm asking is the lead I have is to short and currently plugged into the front of my PC. To plug it into the back of the PC and out of the way I need to buy a longer cable. Just trying to save a few pennies.

Does the monitor have USB jacks in the back or along the edge of the bezel? If so, the monitor probably has a built in USB hub. You would only need to use the cable if you wanted to use the hub feature.
