    Hi,

    Scenario:
Windows XP. I already have a current anti virus - the ESET NOD32 Antivirus.

My room mate who isnt familiar with sanity (Hehehe), installed Kaspersky.
When she restarted, it hangs. You can only move your mouse cursor and that's it. When you try to click the Start Menu the mouse icon changes to processing (the hour glass icon) and forever remains like that. Nor can I display the Task Manager - mouse cursor still displays the everlasting hour glass icon.

When I got home and tried to boot the pc (it is a desktop computer by the way. not a laptop), it still hangs like crazy. So, I reboot, went to SAFE MODE and did the SYSTEM RESTORE, date before the Kaspersky installation. And it didnt work (obviously since I am here in this forum posting my problem).

Computer still hangs like crazy and this time, it doesnt show any desktop icon.

Please please help me. I didn't get mad with my roomate since I see no point of it. :p
So, I just want this resolve.

My last resort will be to reformat my Windows Drive C: but I am not ready to say farewell to some of my softwares that I have no soft copy.

    Please please please,
    Kath

    Boot to Safe Mode again.
    Uninstall Kaspersky
    Reboot to Windows

    Hello again,

Tried the solution above. It didnot work. An error prompts if I do a Change/Remove software (this is via Add/Remove Programs on SafeMode).

    The prompts says -
    Unhandled Exceptions
    Error Number: 0x80004005
    Description: Unspecified Error

    Set up will now termintate.

Then the only option is OK.

As I said earlier and confirmed it last night, my roomate did this already.. And when she encountered the error, she manually deleted all the folders that concerns Kaspersky in Program Files folders.

Still my desktop hangs like crazy with no desktop icon. All I can see is my wallpaper, and my mouse cursor that I can move. And all I can hear is the sound of my windows startup.

    Help! :(

I suggest you undo the system restore and then try to uninstall Kaspersky again.

After uninstalling, run the Kaspersky removal tool as well from the following link:

Reboot the computer and let us know how things are after doing the above.

    jackuars,

I've deleted your two posts. It's never wise to end the svchost.exe processes and changing the RPC service to Local System is a security risk and not needed. Please don't recommend such solutions again.

Those are the initial default settings but it was changed in SP2 for better security.
