[SOLVED] Device manager says modem OK...Windows can't find it?

    My sisters machine...was working before...HDD failed...put a good 6gig in, reformatted and reinstalled OS(Win98)...now modem will not dial...

    in device manager under ports...it says printer port LPT 1
    and com 5(?!)...

    I sometimes get error message 630.

    boot into safe mode and remove all device manager entries under ports and modem.

    boot back into normal mode and reinstal.

    reboot and try

    Thanks...I'll try that I am picking up her machine tomorrow...I'll let you know.

    The Unimodem.vxd file was missing from the system folder...extracted it with SFC...and modem started working!:D
