    I'm actually writing a MediaWiki extension, but the <!DOCTYPE> (inserted by the wiki scripting) tag is giving me hairy fits! :mad:

    I've whittled the output of my extension to this, which I'd recommend looking at through the w3schools TryIt editor (http://www.w3schools.com/tags/tryit.asp?filename=tryhtml_style):
    Code:
    <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd">

    <html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml" xml:lang="en" lang="en" dir="ltr">
    <head>
    </head>

    <body>
    <h1 class="firstHeading">TestDBDiagram</h1>
    <table border=3>
    <th colspan=3 style="textAlign=center;background:0000cc">Flora</th>
    <tr style="background-color:ccccff"><td align=center colspan=3>Fruit</td></tr>
    <tr><td>Apple</td><td>Status Icons</td><td>Description</td></tr>
    <tr><td>Banana</td><td>Status Icons</td><td>Description</td></tr>
    <tr><td>Cherry</td><td>Status Icons</td><td>Description</td></tr>
    <tr><td>Date</td><td>Status Icons</td><td>Description</td></tr>
    </table>
    </body>

    </html>

    Otay, if you remove the <!DOCTYPE> tag, the "Flora" and "Fruit" <td>s have colored backgrounds. If you leave it in, or replace it with any example <!DOCTYPE> tag I have been able to find, no color. I have been beating my head against the wall all day on this one. :(
