I've been experiencing slower movement on my computer and recently did the MS Critical Update for Mydoom, etc. which said if I was being offered the update then most likely my machine was infected. I downloaded the removal tool and McAffee finds nothing. Not unusual, I'm finding for McAfee.

Everytime I try to run Symantec's free scan it locks my computer up and I have to manually turn it off. Can someone look at my Hijack This log and tell me if I do have Mydoom or some other trojan on my computer.

I'd be grateful for any assistance. Thx.

Thanks. I checked it off and had it fixed. Is that the only thing, or is there something else that would prevent my being able to run a scan using Symantec?

Hi, Not that I see. You may be having trouble witht the ActiveX control, or have a firewall that is not "allowing" the Symantec scanner...perhaps you said "No" when prompted for something? There is nothing in the log that should bother it. You MIGHT have to shut off McAffee just before you try the Symantec scanner.

What version of McAfee are you using? Here's how to check your engine version. Right-click on the McAfee shield in the system tray, select 'About' and look at the 'Scan engine' version number.

I actually just uninstalled McAfee yesterday. I was having nothing but trouble w/it for the past year I've had it. We've had 3 viruses or trojans in the past year on either mine or our kid's computers and McAfee never found any of them. So, I just got fed up yesterday. It's run a little better today, believe it or not, but still not real good. I don't know what the problem is.

Anyway, I'll have to find another virus protection program. Any suggestions? I'm thining about Norton.

No matter what anti-virus you use you have to keep the engine up to date as well as the dat files, Norton will be no different. You need to update the engine or the dat files are not working properly.

I suggest you go with what ever product you find works for you. I personally choose McAfee, just because I use it and know it. You may have another product that you know, like and use. The important thing is to stay on top of it as it will get out dated.

I hope that helps.

Yes, as far as I can see. I have run into the problem recently with some other posters here at TSG who could not run Panda online scan, or one of the others...but Symantec's or Housecall would run flawlessly.. those issues were never solved, no matter what they were given to try.

So do you think it's the engine as apposed to the dat files? Perhaps a full removal of the product may have had better results?, as is the case with McAfee.
